Brief Introduction

Huddersfield city with 250 thousand population is located in the famous West Yorkshire of central England, the distance between each university town is about 20 miles. Usually, it takes you 2 hours to go to London by train or 3 hours by bus. The campus where the Huddersfield narrow canal flows through is adjacent to the town's main shopping places. The modern construction on campus is really in harmony with the 19th Century buildings. Former factories have been transformed into attractive high-tech teaching buildings that stand along the canal.

The university has about 30000 students, including about 4500 international students from more than 130 countries. And its current president is Prince Andrew, Duke of York.

Accommodation

As a specially constructed student village, Storthes Hall Park was open to the public in 1995. It is about 4.5 miles from the university campus to Storthes Hall, and there is shuttle bus service between 08:00 and 23:30 (free before 18:00). Many blocks consist the new Storthes Hall community, including High Green, Jenkinson and Slade. Apartments usually are consisted of 8 rooms, mixed accommodation or single sex accommodation. Each block consists of 8 to 4 apartments. The new block is a real student block, where students can meet lots of friends. There are another four apartments in Huddersfield: Aspley apartment, Little Aspley aparment, Firth Point apartment, and Snow Island apartment. Firth Point apartment, Snow Island apartment and Ashenhurst apartment are close to the main campus. With about less than 300 rooms, the students number is less than that of the Storthes Hall. Ashenhurst apartment has been refurbished. It now has rooms of 4 and rooms of 8, and all apartments have a public kitchen and a rest area. Each apartment has two shared toilets, two showers and bathtubs.

Service

The university will arrange students to stay in Stowe Seth Hal Storthes student village. All the rooms here combine the functions of study room and bedroom. Equipped with suite facilities, all of them meet the standard of accommodation in a three-star hotel. Huddersfield university is proud of its ability to provide students with comprehensive, high-quality services and help.

The student union is managed by students, which aims at providing students with a variety of benefits, supportive services, organizing social events and associations. It regularly arranges comedy and video nights, with two bars, a coffee shop and a daily store.

There are non-alcohol social areas and about 40 clubs and associations on campus. The Student Services Department has a special international student consultant who is dedicated to help students throughout their studies. The service department provides a network support in order to make sure students can grow in a caring and friendly environments. Besides the university organizes activities to welcome international students. Known as one of the most friendly towns in  northern England, Huddersfield is a multicultural community with a variety of facilities to meet religious, dietary and cultural requirements.
