De Montfort University

De Montfort University (DMU) a high quality and creative comprehensive university located in the city of Leicester in the East Midlands in England. Its predecessor was Leicester Art School founded in 1870, which later become Leicester College of Art and Technology, Leicester Polytechnic. Until now it has become De Montfort University. The university was named in honor of Simon De Montford, the sixth Earl of Leicester (Earl of Leicester), and he was also the great man who established the first parliament in Britain in 1265.

By 2014, the university had about 22000 students and 2700 faculty members from more than 100 countries all over the world. At present, it has five Schools in general, respectively the College of Art and Design (its alumni winning Oscar Prize), School of Business and Law, School of Technology, School of Health and Life Science, School of Humanities and 3 specialized research institutions. It is particularly worth mentioned that there were totally 13 professors obtained the National Teaching Fellowship granted by High Education Academy in Deda, which ranked second in all universities in the UK. And it was Ranked TOP150 in " Times Higher Education" the World's Youngest University Rankings in 2016. Meanwhile, the latest The Times university rankings showed DMU rose to 53rd in the UK. In 2016, it was ranked 501-600th in Times World University Rankings, which is much better than many Chinese elite universities such as Ocean University of China, Sichuan University, Jilin University, etc.

According to the 2008 scientific research evaluation, 40% of the studies were "world leading" and 30% were "international excellence". The teaching quality of English literature is equivalent to the University of Cambridge. The number of teachers who won the National Teaching Award were ranked second in the country.

As a new type of University, DMU is different from the traditional British universities because it focuses more on the professional quality education in the future career development. Besides, it also set up a lot of unique and creative courses which can be closely related with the needs of modern society workplaces for the internationalized professional talents, which attracts many outstanding international students to come to DMU and get enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate courses. The university has more than 27000 students (about 22000 full-time students, 4000 part-time students), including nearly 700 Chinese students and more than 2000 international students from the rest of the world including more than 130 countries and regions. The annual budget of DMU is about 150 million pounds.

International certification

There are more than 170 courses such as construction, accounting, law, journalism, marketing, nursing, technical engineering etc. have got international professional certification. They aim at combining the practice with teaching contents. What’s more, the students can gain the degree and enjoy additional professional qualification certificate at the same time.
